Gerald Clark: Structural Integrator

Gerald Clark, a native San Diegan, was formerly a telecommunications design engineer by education and training. He first heard the term Structural Integration (SI) from a fellow competitor at a triathlon race in 2002. After researching SI on the Internet and reading Dr. Ida P. Rolf's definitive book on Structural Integration, "Rolfing: Reestablishing the Natural Alignment and Structural Integration of the Human Body for Vitality and Well-Being", Gerald decided to embrace the approach before his next triathlon. His goal was modest: greater balance and reduced pain. His body was asymmetrical, prone to injuries, and accustomed to unnatural discomfort before, during and after both training and races.

For most of his life, Gerald’s athletic and ancillary healthcare providers were chiropractors and certified sports massage therapists. These two forms of alternative healthcare provided therapeutic effects, but the relief was only temporary. Gerald wanted his pervasive and chronic pain to end. Through Structural Integration, he discovered a new way to change his body structure (alignment, balance, strength and more) in a natural way that not only eliminated nagging pain but sparked an incredible evolutionary journey of a physical and energy renewal.

The benefits Gerald received from Structural Integration work were so unexpected and dramatic, he committed to studying and mastering the subject. Gerald says today that he could not have envisioned that "my next career move would include Structural Integration." At that time, he was Vice President of Engineering for a cutting-edge wireless startup funded by large companies and venture capital firms, including Cisco Systems, Sevin Rosen Funds and Corning.

For Gerald, Structural Integration became a perfect academic and cultural fit. He attended The Guild for Structural Integration (GSI) in Boulder, Colorado. His theory and embodiment teacher for auditing and practitioner training was Emmett Hutchins of Kauai, Hawaii. Hutchins was one of Dr. Rolf's first students and instructors.

Nilce Silveira, a dedicated Brazilian teacher and force of nature, accompanied Emmett during the practitioner phase. And Jeff Linn and Andy Goodwin were ever present when discussing Anatomy and Physiology in Boulder, and Kauai.

Gerald opened his Structural Integration practice in Del Mar, California, shortly after graduation, simultaneously building a client base in Tucson, Arizona.

Before becoming a Structural Integration practitioner, Gerald was a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, a researcher with the department of Electrical Engineering University of California, San Diego, and an electronics design engineer for the telecommunications industry. Gerald is a member of IASI, NCMTMB, ABMP and GSI.
